Tijdens deze eerste avond van ‘Het Filmplein’ trappen we af met de films Zwarte Ibis, Gifts from Babylon en Zwart Geluk gecureerd door Africadelic en YardVibes. Africadelic is een platform en festival dat zich inzet voor de programmering en promotie van Afrikaanse creativiteit, diversiteit en activisme uit de diaspora in Nederland. YardVibes is een in Amsterdam gevestigd streamingplatform voor content van onafhankelijke Afrikaanse en Caribische makers.
Praktische details
Tijdens de filmscreenings van het Filmplein krijg je voor slechts €10 een gratis biertje (IJwit of Vrijwit) of frisdrank, een bakje popcorn en een koptelefoon in bruikleen om de film te kunnen beluisteren en kijken. De film begint om 22.00 uur.
De koptelefoons zijn vanaf 21.00 uur af te halen met je ticket(s). Mochten er nog kaarten beschikbaar zijn, dan kun je die ook vanaf 21.00 uur ter plekke kopen voor €12,50.
Let op: gekochte kaarten kunnen niet meer geannuleerd en/of vergoed worden.

During this first evening of ‘Het Filmplein’ we kick off with the films Zwarte Ibis, Gifts from Babylon and Zwart Geluk, curated by Africadelic and YardVibes. Africadelic is a platform and festival that is committed to the programming and promotion of African and African diasporic cultural creativity, diversity and activism in the Netherlands. YardVibes is an Amsterdam-based streaming platform for content from independent African and Caribbean makers.
Practical information
A €10 ticket for the Filmplein includes: a free beer (IJwit or Vrijwit) or soft drink, a cup of popcorn, and a headset on loan to listen and watch the film. The film will start at 10:00 PM.
The headsets can be picked up from 9:00 PM with your ticket(s). If there are still tickets available, you can also buy them on-site from 9:00 PM for €12.50.

Zwarte Ibis (Black Ibis, 2024)
NL: Zwarte Ibis is een nieuwe korte poëtische film die de zoektocht van een jonge zwarte vrouw naar intimiteit portretteert in een wereld waarin de grenzen tussen het individu en het collectieve, het politieke en het persoonlijke, het verleden en het heden steeds vager worden. De korte film is een afro-surrealistische mijmering, waarin op poëtische wijze onze hedendaagse opvattingen over relaties met het zelf en met denkbeeldige gemeenschappen opnieuw worden verbeeld door historisch en cultureel opgelegde opvattingen over de intieme levens van zwarte mensen in de diaspora in twijfel te trekken.
EN: Zwarte Ibis is a new short poetic film portraying a young Black woman’s quest for intimacy in a world where the boundaries between the individual and the collective, the political and the personal, the past and the present, become ever blurrier. The short film is an afro-surrealistic reverie, poetically re-imagining our contemporary conceptions of relationships with the self and with imagined communities through a questioning of historically and culturally imposed views on Black people’s intimate lives in the diaspora.
Gifts from Babylon (2018)
NL: Gifts from Babylon is een bekroonde korte film die de psychologische impact van irreguliere Afrika-EU-migratie onderzoekt door de lens van een Gambiaanse terugkeermigrant. De film toont de persoonlijke conflicten die ontstaan wanneer Modou (Christopher ‘Tijan’ Smith), een jonge gedeporteerde uit Gambia, terugkeert naar zijn thuisland na vijf jaar illegaal in Europa te hebben gewoond. Hij lijdt aan intense flashbacks van zijn traumatische migrantenreis, die hem ervan weerhouden opnieuw contact te maken met zijn familie, vrienden en zichzelf, en vraagt zich af wat er van hem is geworden.
EN: Gifts from Babylon is an award-winning short film exploring the psychological impact of irregular Africa-EU migration through the lens of a Gambian return-migrant. The film shows the personal conflicts that arise when Modou (Christopher ‘Tijan’ Smith), a young deportee from The Gambia, returns to his home country after five years of living illegally in Europe. Suffering from intense flashbacks of his traumatic migrant journey, which keep him from reconnecting with his family, friends and himself, he wonders what has become of him.
Zwart Geluk (Black Joy, Blaka Koloku, 2023)
NL: Zwart Geluk is een poëtische, Afro-futuristische korte film over de zoektocht naar vrijheid voor zwarte inwoners van de stad Amsterdam. Filmmaker Rafik Opti loopt door de stad en praat met mensen van verschillende zwarte subculturen over geluk, onafhankelijkheid en hun visie op de toekomst. De film brengt al deze gevarieerde gesprekken bij elkaar, waardoor een dynamisch portret ontstaat van de zwarte identiteit en de viering van zwarte vrijheid, kracht en vreugde.
EN: Zwart Geluk is a poetic, Afro-futuristic short film about the quest for freedom for Black residents in the city of Amsterdam. Filmmaker Rafik Opti walks through the city and talks with members of various Black subcultures about happiness, independence and their vision of the future. The film smoothly strings together all these varied conversations, creating a dynamic portrait of Black identity and the celebration of Black freedom, strength and joy.
