Het is precies 5 jaar geleden dat de samenwerking tussen Comité 21 maart en Pakhuis de Zwijger is begonnen rondom de Week Tegen Racisme. Hierin hebben we de afgelopen jaren samengewerkt met tientallen grassroots organisaties, activisten en betrokken burgers om programma’s, workshops en filmscreenings te organiseren in aanloop naar de landelijke demonstratie tegen racisme en discriminatie. Speciaal voor dit jubileum zullen we beginnen met een feestelijke inloop vanaf 19:00 waarbij we het plenaire programma zullen openen met een terugblik van 5 jaar Week Tegen Racisme. Daarnaast zullen we reflecteren op het huidige anti-racisme beleid met de Landelijke Coördinator tegen Racisme en Discriminatie. Tijdens het festival zijn er diverse panels georganiseerd door grassroots initiatieven en organisaties. Ook zal er een Week Tegen Racisme expositie zijn in het cafe, een marktplaats voor anti-racisme organisaties en expositie van Aisin Raisins. Ten slotte, zullen wij het festival afsluiten met een uniek concert van Lowkey aangevuld met live muziek van Afrgroovesband. Wij eindigen de avond in het café met de muziek DJ Keynote!

Tijdens de opening blikken wij terug op 5 jaar Week Tegen Racisme waarbij we ook reflecteren op het anti-racisme beleid in Nederland en Amsterdam met onder andere de Landelijke Coördinator Tegen Racisme en Discriminatie.

We zullen collectief afsluiten samen met de Amsterdamse Wethouder Touria Meliani met erna speciaal voor dit jubileum een uniek concert van Lowkey in combinatie met de liveband Afrogrooves.
Wij sluiten de avond al dansend af met de tunes van DJ Keyote in het café!

20:30-21:45 | Anti-Racisme Media Test (NL)
Tijdens deze sessie presenteren wij de ‘Anti-Racist Media Test’ ontwikkeld tijdens het Europese project: Re-framing migrants in the European Media. De test kijkt naar de werkomstandigheden van mainstream media journalisten in nieuwsredacties, vooral degene met een migrantenachtergrond. De test beoordeelt ook de manier waarop nieuws over migratie in beeld gebracht wordt. Veel nieuwsredacties hebben een diversiteitsbeleid maar slagen er toch niet om hun manier van werken te veranderen. Veranderingen gaan traag waardoor veel eigen media initiatieven en omroepen worden opgericht zoals bijvoorbeeld Omroep PAC en Omroep Zwart. Helpt deze test om meer reflectief te kijken naar wat gepubliceerd wordt en hoe artikelen tot stand komen? Met o.a. Moha Gerehou, Mohamed S. Bah.

20:30-21:45 | Amsterdam against apartheid (ENG)
Amsterdam as a city has a long history of standing against apartheid and supporting the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa 1960- 1994. Apartheid must not be accepted whether in South Africa or Palestine or any part of the world. This event aims to draw connections between the history of the anti-apartheid movement in Amsterdam and call upon Amsterdam to stand against apartheid and ends all ties with the city of Tel Aviv. In partnership with Palestinian and Dutch CSO’s and international organisations we will invite speakers, such as activists, from the anti-apartheid movement in the past and Palestinian/Dutch activists leading the anti-apartheid movement now. The panel wil be moderated by Saleem Salameh, with Layla Kattermann – Students for Palestine, Bart Luirink – formerly Dutch Anti-Apartheid Movement, Corrie Roeper – former Holland Committee on Southern Africa, Robert Soeterik – Palestina Komitee, Nilab Ahmadi – Bij1, Jeff Handmaker Associate Professor in Legal Sociology.

20:30-21:45 | Hierarchies in BIPOC Communities (ENG)
How Can We Dismantle Supremacy within Our Communities? In order to combat racism and the trauma that it evokes we need to unravel the hierarchies within our communities of colour. The goal of this event is to advocate for the experience of women and LGBTQ+ people of colour and highlight the need for unity and equity within our community. We also hope to generate concrete ideas and practices to achieve this equity. This break-out aims to not only be a safe space for those who are familiar with these experiences but also shed light on misogynoir and the place it holds within our communities of colour.

20:30-21:45 | Struggle of Indigenous Peoples and Mother Earth (ENG)
Indigenous peoples around the world are on the forefront of the battle against the degradation of the environment and the climate crisis that put in danger all life on earth. In this programme, we shall present the situation of indigenous peoples in Suriname and the Philippines and how they struggle for their human rights and their way of life that is respectful of nature. Our purpose is to raise awareness on this important topic and get support. We shall have speakers for the indigenous peoples of Suriname and the Philippines and a short video on the Lumad in the Philippines. Then, we shall have a short open forum.

20:30-21:45 | Reclaiming East and Southeast Asian (in)visibility (ENG)
From ‘ni hao’ to stereotypes and hate crimes. What does anti-Asian racism look like in the Netherlands and how do we fight it? From having seemingly innocent phrases like ‘ni hao’ to other offensive racial slurs yelled at you on the street. Many East and Southeast Asian people in the Netherlands experience this as early as primary school age. Some even experience physical violence. What does anti-Asian racism look like? How do we fight it? This exhibition shows past and present initiatives fighting the range from daily microaggressions to institutional racism that East and Southeast Asian communities endure in the Netherlands. Get inspired by these campaigns and actions, and find concrete tips & tools to contribute to the fight against racism.

22:00-23:00 | Gezamenlijke afsluiting & concert door Lowkey x Afrogrooves
Speciaal voor dit festival hebben we de Britse rapper en activist uit Londen uitgenodigd die bekend staat onder de naam Lowkey. In zijn vlijmscherpe teksten maakt hij kritische analyses over racisme, imperialisme, kolonialisme, vluchtelingencrisis en neoliberalisme. Hij zal hierin samen optreden met de Afrogrooves band. Afrogrooves is een community van muzikanten en muziekliefhebbers met als vertrekpunt de afrobeat van Fela Kuti uit de jaren 1970: muziek met sterk politieke en anti-koloniale boodschappen hierin verwerkt.

Artist Keyote (born Steven Jones) is a DC native who grew up on ‘Chocolate City’s’ own brand of soul, funk, rock, and go-go. Those sounds eventually gave way to hip hop, Afrobeat, and other sounds of resistance from around the world. He will be providing us with rhythms of resistance in the cafe after the concert.
