In our debate series New Democracy, we explore different city policies and alternative practices which are reinvigorating democracy and transforming our cities and regions for the common good. Spain is such an example. Since 2011 there are new political and social dynamics present in reaction to the financial en democratic crisis, with a whole new generation of active people. They make a change in national politics, for example by means of citizen platforms that even operate on an European level. What can we learn from Spain? How do they turn bottom-up initiatives and innovations into new modes of governing?
