In Uncovering Creatives we cover the stories of creative frontrunners. Jennifer (AKA The Naked MC) Muntslag talks for an hour with our guests about making, entrepreneurship, (creative) identity, and social themes. This evening we welcome Thorn de Vries and Mila van der Linden.
Why do they make what they are making? How do they do it? What drives them in their work and where can we find it? Those are the questions we deal with in Uncovering Creatives. Join us for the conversation!
About tonight’s creatives
Thorn de Vries is actor, drag king, podcast maker and they just launched a book about everything that has to do with gender, FAQ Gender. Thorn became famous when they were the first non-binary actor in a Dutch dramaseries and feature film, but besides that they were already active as drag king within the House of Vineyard, made a podcast in which they and Mandy interviewed couples about their love stories and were an activist. After graduating the bachelor Media and Culture Thorn started working as video editor, by coincidence they saw that SpangaS was looking for a non-binary actor for the roll of Leslie in the new series SpangaS: de Campus. That’s where a star was born.
Starting as a multimedia artist and filmmaker, Mila van der Linden has carved a world of her own through film and photography, either featuring herself or by spotlighting non-conforming people through her medium. Over the last few years, she started producing music to accompany her visuals but quickly found her groove when she began collecting analogue synths, sampling them and adding her own vocals to the process. Recently, she has accomplished finding and balancing her sound, realising that the music she makes has taken a leading role in her offbeat world. Now, she’s ready to share her musical ventures – productions, vocals and visuals – as a one-woman show.
