Violence towards trans people is increasing by the day. It is not just a problem encountered in the Global South; it is a global problem. As a result, thousands of trans persons, especially trans women are mistreated, abused and murdered purely because of their gender identity and gender expression. Every year during Transgender Day of Remembrance, we reflect on the victims of violence. This year, we will dedicate a QueerCity show to all trans people who have become victims of hate, violence and transphobia. We will take a journey together where we will honor the dead with strength and prosperity. And create awareness about the amount of violence the trans community is facing daily.
Alejandra Ortiz is a writer, and grassroots activist. Alejandra is a trans woman with a history of marginalization and violence. Her history includes sex work, use of drugs, being a refugee and undocumented migrant experience among other intersections. Alejandra devotes her activism to the visibility of empowerment of marginalized communities. Her book ‘De Waarheid Zal Me Bevrijden’ has been published by Lebowski Publishers.
Aryelle Freeman Hopelezz is a trans woman from Jamaica and a performer at the House of Hopelezz, an outrageous group of enthusiastic drag queens in Amsterdam who perform at clubs, parties and festivals. Besides performing, Aryelle also works as a fashion model.
Ana Paula Lima is Transfeminist, anti-facist, Braziliaanse Nederlander, Latina, Pride ambassadeur, columnist TransMagazine voorvechter van een wereld zonder transfobie.
Alara Adilow is queer schrijver van Somalische afkomst. Alara is columnist bij literair tijdschrift Elders. In 2022 won ze de El Hizrja prijs voor proza, werd ze geselecteerd For the Public in Residence voor de queer – en transgender gemeenschap in museum Arnhem en verscheen haar debuutbundel Mythen en Stoplichten.
Robin Nimanong, de danskunstenaar stelt zich ten doel ongehoorde stemmen luid te laten klinken, in een strijd tegen paradigma’s en stereotypen, en in een poging om meer begrip voor elkaar te ontwikkelen. Geïnspireerd door zijn eigen queer en bi-culturele identiteit ontwikkelt Robin Nimanong zich als jonge maker. Verder heeft Robin ervaring opgelopen bij Batshevas Ensemble, Ivgi & Greben, SHIFFT en Nicole Beutler. Na afsluiting van Amsterdam Fringe Festival 2020 won Robin Nimanong de ‘Next Best Fringe Award’: een residentietraject bij ICK Dans Amsterdam.
