It is well known that Europe has traditionally supported the state of Israel but Europe continues to do so even as Israel commits genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and intensifies ethnic cleansing in the West Bank. In doing so, Europe is violating international laws that it is bound to uphold on the basis of ratified treaties. The question is: why does Europe continue to support Israel in word and deed? Because of Israel’s dependence on Europe, the latter is in a position to put pressure on Israel. What could be our priorities in combating European policy on Israel? We asked prominent Irish specialist David Cronin, who works in the EU capital Brussels and is affiliated with The Electronic Intifada (Chicago), to delve deeply into the background of this continued support. Cronin is the author of numerous publications on this subject, including Europe’s Alliance with Israel: Aiding the Occupation (2010).

Programme seriesJustice for Palestine

The Justice for Palestine series will focus upon the broader historic- and present-day context of colonisation, apartheid and military occupation that preceded the horrific October 7th attacks and the relentless bombardments of the Gaza strip that followed. By starting these dialogues, we aim to focus on envisioning sustainable solutions for justice, equality and peace in Historic Palestine for all people who are living there.
