Nightlife is for everyone. But how can we ensure a diverse and inclusive night culture in Amsterdam? How do we make sure that everyone feels welcome, safe and represented? We invite you to take part in a dialogue between night visitors and night makers of all kinds to discuss accessibility, social safety and safe spaces for marginalized communities. Share your thoughts on the steps needed to create a more inclusive night culture. All input will be shared with the city administration of Amsterdam, who is committed to creating and ensuring a diverse and inclusive night culture in Amsterdam.

About the speaker:

Passion DEEZ (he/him) is a DJ and curator known for blending bass-centric sounds like 2-step, grime, and jungle, creating inclusive and sustainable music spaces. Born in Zimbabwe, raised in London, and based in Amsterdam, he’s a resident DJ at Radio Radio and a fixture on community radio stations, festivals, raves and club spaces across the world. With over 15 years of experience and a key fixture in the Patta Soundsystem, his passion for music and hosting remains unstoppable.

Eva Ventura (she/her) is an architect, landscape architect, teacher, event organizer, night clubber and singer in a choir. With her studio ventura, she aims to sprinkle some glitter over (night)life with spatial research and design, by creating energetic, and meaningful moments that sometimes are a little cheeky (like playrooms). The nightscapes she designs set out to build confidence, facilitate intimacy, connectivity and spark a childlike sense of exploration. With radical creativity at her heart, the studio is always looking for opportunities to collaborate, and braid together a stunningly dynamic, most positively outrageous, mix of people, media, and disciplines.

Aris van Ham (he/him) was born in Nijmegen and now living in Amsterdam for five years, is a social entrepreneur with a passion for music and connection. He works at Stichting 10000 Hours on the projects Embrace and Music Moves and also organizes the events The Tribe and Morning Mesh. Whether it’s on the dancefloor or in his work, he values creating a positive atmosphere where people feel welcome.

Kasper Burghout (he/him) has spent a decade immersed in queer nightlife and has been a driving force within the vibrant and sex-positive collective Pornceptual. Their background in design research and innovation fuels a constant curiosity to learn and reinvent their contribution to nightlife culture.

Marit Brom (she/they) is a dj and organizer. She founded the Sober Clubbing collective to create space in nightlife for people that – for various reasons – want to party sober. They organise the party SOBER, with editions at De Sering, Radio Radio, Club Parallel and the upcoming one at Club RAUM, on the 12th of April.

Pete Gomes (he/him) is a Brazilian artist who has spent a significant part of his life in the United States. Now based in Amsterdam, he is dedicated to fostering the local arts scene. As a co-founder of The Platform, an event-based art collective, he focuses on showcasing emerging creatives in the Netherlands and integrating art and performance into Amsterdam’s nightlife. He has hosted events at Radion, Garage Noord, Skatepark Noord, Studio K, Foundation Nowhere, and more. In addition to curating artistic experiences, he launched The Platform Records, a publishing and management agency. As a filmmaker and photographer, he collaborates with musicians and local talent. Pete is also a night manager at Radion, overseeing large-scale electronic music events with 1,400+ attendees, bringing together a diverse and multicultural audience.

Veerle Klok (she/her) plays multiple roles in Amsterdam’s nightlife. She is a trainer in Social Safety & Safer Clubbing at IVY by Sexmatters and serves as the Community Manager of Orphic Amsterdam. In addition, she freelances as a professional dancer and works in various club roles, primarily in Awareness. Her academic background in political science and international development shapes her perspective on diversity and inclusivity in nightlife spaces.

Programme seriesTalk of the Night

Talk of the Night is a series where we start the conversation with Amsterdam on its night culture. What do citizens of Amsterdam think of our city’s nightlife? What is needed to create a more diverse, inclusive and vibrant night for all? Talk of the Night is a series organized by representatives of night citizens and night makers in the Amsterdam Night Council (ANC) in collaboration with Pakhuis de Zwijger. The ANC, including the night mayor of Amsterdam, represents the city’s night culture in conversations with the municipality of Amsterdam. In this series, we invite all clubbers, night makers and other citizens to join in and share their thoughts, wishes and worries on night culture in Amsterdam. All input will be shared with the city’s administration. Together, we work towards a meaningful night culture for generations to come.
