For our 2nd edition under the theme RITUALS the Fifth Friday Sisterhood invites you to join us for the subject ‘Courtship’. In the 21st century, finding a loving friendship or a life partner is becoming very confusing. In the past 20 to 30 years, online services began to dominate how we meet up to connect and form long-term meaningful relationships. Major research currently shows that in the past few years, and especially after the pandemic, these same online services have ‘peaked’ and are now beginning to wane, lose money or are going out of business. It turns out that many of these services were actually based around casual liaisons for sex or short-term hook-ups at best, and at worst, catfishing to exploit lonely or vulnerable individuals of their belongings or for criminal blackmail purposes. So, what does this mean? Are we as humans different or have we changed in recent times, or are/were these services just based upon a reasoning that is no longer valid? And if so, what is the reason we look for relationships today, is it for sex, lust, love, marriage, partnership unions or friendship?
About the programme
With the international rise and acceptance of more queer and self-gender determination in the 21st century, is it time to reexamine traditional forms of relationships and life partnerships and what they mean to us? Come and join us and explore the ever-changing possibilities of dating, finding love and being more honest about what sex is. Of course, there might be some sensitive stories about sex trafficking, porn or why in the Western world, we are able to be more direct and open about such subjects, yet in other places in the world, this is difficult or not possible at all.
The Fifth Friday Sisterhood never shies away from the good, bad or complexities. The main focus of the FFS is to create safe spaces and places, to be welcoming and open to all and everyone, so please do remember to be mindful when you visit us.
