During this event, the European Race and Imagery Foundation (ERIF) presents its 10 years’ data on the evolving presence of the racist (Zwarte) Piet caricature on and in Sinterklaas merchandise. Capturing the festival across time using both online quantitative techniques and in-store observations, ERIF has been able to show how different brands and stores express their own Sinterklaas narratives. How this responds to anti-racist organising pressures, as well as how this also connects to belonging in Dutch context. Join us for an evening of talks, discussion and performances with guests including visual artists das James and James Yuca; and scholar Ashley Melcherts.

Programme seriesEmancipating History
