Nieuw-West is een superdivers stadsdeel. Hoe kunnen wij samen dit stadsdeel nog inclusiever maken? Met Stichting Prisma Groep, een stichting voor biculturele en/of islamitische LHBTQI+ personen, hosten we deze programmareeks over inclusiviteit, veiligheid, racisme en intersectionaliteit in Nieuw-West.
Nieuw-West is a super diverse district in the city of Amsterdam. How can we work together to make this district even more inclusive? With Stichting Prisma Groep, a foundation for bicultural and/or Islamic LGBTQI+ people, we host this programme series on inclusivity, safety, racism and intersectionality.

Tahrim Ramdjan is journalist en jurist. Hij is van Surinaams-Hindoestaanse afkomst, is islamitisch opgevoed en opgegroeid in de Amsterdamse Bijlmer, maar beweegt nu in overwegend witte werelden. Hij vertelt over zijn ervaring daarmee.
Nour Anne Abdullah is op haar vijfendertigste vanuit Koeweit naar Nederland gevlucht en ging hier binnen no time aan de slag als lhbtiq+-voorlichter op scholen en als teamlid van Trans United. Ze houdt van schrijven, fotograferen, dansen en creatieve dingen doen.
Safa is een trans-non-binaire performancekunstenaar uit het Midden-Oosten/Iran. Safa heeft een performatieve manier ontwikkeld om de Farsi-poëzie van Hafez en Rumi te vertalen. Bij het vertalen van de symboliek en allegorieën van deze poëzie, trekt Safa vergelijkingen tussen het spirituele soefipad en hun strijd als queer BIPOC in het Westen.
Alara Adilow (1988) is een Nederlandse dichter van Somalische afkomst. Ze schreef met haar dichtbundel Mythen en stoplichten (2022) een van de opvallendste debuten van de afgelopen jaren. ‘Een onverschrokken debuut’ zei de jury die haar dichtbundel over haar eigen transformatie van man naar vrouw bekroonde met de Herman de Coninckprijs, de belangrijkste Vlaamse onderscheiding voor Nederlandstalige poëzie. De bundel dingt ook mee naar de Grote Poëzieprijs 2023, de toonaangevende onderscheiding voor dichtkunst, waarvan de winnaar op 17 mei 2023 bekend wordt gemaakt. ‘Als het lichaam niet in de taal past, pas je de taal aan. Die simpele en effectieve omkering zie ik in Mythen en stoplichten terug,’ schreef Obe Alkema in NRC. Op dit moment werkt Alara aan haar debuutroman.
Isjed Hussain zet haar meervoudige identiteiten en talenten al meer dan vijftien jaar in om biculturele en/of islamitische LHBTQI+ te helpen als activist, voorlichter, sociaal werker, projectleider en directeur van Stichting Prisma Groep. Deze Pakistaans-Nederlandse transgender moslima en hijra richtte in 2017 Stichting Prisma Groep op met zeven andere biculturele LHBTQI+. Inmiddels ondersteunt zij samen met vele vrijwilligers, stagiairs, assistent projectleiders en bestuursleden biculturele en/of islamitische (BIPOC) LHBTQI+ personen – nationaal en internationaal – met onder meer empowerment bijeenkomsten, psychosociale gesprekken, voorlichtingen, een maatjesproject en meer om deze gemeenschappen te helpen. Interseciontaliteit en bijeenkomsten hierover zijn een specialisatie van Stichting Prisma Groep.
About the program
LGBTQI+ Muslims or Islamic queer people can feel very lonely because of the lack of understanding of their multiple identities. Fortunately, more and more people realize that all these identities can go together perfectly. Stichting Prisma Groep is committed to these groups and wants to celebrate all identities and super diversity. We don’t care if you are a cultural, religious and/or political Muslim or if you don’t really see yourself as a Muslim anymore. We want to offer the opportunity to talk about this during this program, with this panel and each other. During the iftar that we provide, there will be enough time to get to know each other better. During this meeting we want to focus mainly on LGBTQI+ Muslims and their friends and/or relatives. Other interested parties are welcome, if they keep away from racism, Islamophobia, homonationalism, homophobia and transphobia. This evening we want to celebrate our similarities and differences.
About the speakers
Tahrim Ramdjan is a journalist and lawyer. He is of Surinamese-Hindu origin, has an Islamic upbringing and grew up in the Amsterdam Bijlmer, but now he predominantly operates in white surroundings. He talks about his experience with this.
Nour Anne Abdullah fled from Kuwait to the Netherlands at the age of thirty-five and started working here in no time as an LGBTQ+ information officer in schools and as a Trans United team member. She likes to write, photograph, dance and do creative things.
Safa is a trans nonbinary performance artist from the Middle East/Iran. Safa has been developing a performative way of translating the Farsi poetry of Hafez and Rumi. In translating the symbolism and allegories of this poetry, Safa draws comparisons between the spiritual Sufi path and their struggles as a queer BIPOC in the West.
Alara Adilow (1988) is a Dutch poet of Somali descent. She wrote one of the most striking debuts of recent years with her collection of poems Mythen en stoplichten (2022). “A fearless debut,” said the jury who awarded her collection of poems about her own transformation from man to woman with the Herman de Coninck Prize, the most important Flemish award for Dutch-language poetry. The collection is also in competition for the Grote Poëzieprijs 2023, the leading award for poetry, the winner of which will be announced on 17 May 2023. “If the body doesn’t fit the language, you adapt the language. I see that simple and effective reversal in Mythen en Stoplichten,” wrote Obe Alkema in NRC. Alara is currently working on her debut novel.
Isjed Hussain is using her multiple identities and talents – for more than fifteen years – to help bicultural and/or Islamic LGBTQI+ as an activist, educator, social worker, project leader and director of the Prisma Group Foundation. This Pakistani-Dutch transgender Muslima and hijra founded Stichting Prisma Groep in 2017 with seven other bicultural LGBTQI+. Together with many volunteers, trainees, assistant project leaders and board members, she now supports bicultural and/or Islamic (BIPOC) LGBTQI+ people – nationally and internationally – with empowerment meetings, psychosocial conversations, information sessions, a buddy project and more to help these communities. Intersectionality and meetings about this are a specialization of Stichting Prisma Groep.
