In today’s world, if you can’t sell out shows or go viral on social media you are often overlooked. This leaves little to no room for a heartfelt approach to creating music, or art. From The Heart: Live Sessions offers a safe place for upcoming artists within our society to perform freely in front of an audience that understands the significance of creating from the heart. Today the journey of a starting artist can be filled with unnecessary hardships. Certain hardships are often put in place by the surrounding environment. The concept of ‘gatekeeping’ is usually what keeps creatives from getting opportunities that they deserve. This is a pivotal reason for creating this programme. We do not believe in “gatekeeping”, we believe that every artist should have an equal opportunity. Regardless of who you are and where you come from. During this evening, we are offering a platform to those who are not heard and those who are not seen.
About the artists
Sanya The Seer – Aren’t we all looking for something? Don’t we all strive for happiness? Do we as people have similar goals? Do we look alike? Or not? Adopted and adapted, Sanjaya questions boundaries and social constructs. He challenges himself and others to create a passable meeting ground together in a slowed-down liminal space, where we can take a step back and look at each other with empathy and understanding. His adoption and the overarching search for a feeling of home is the source of inspiration for his upcoming EP ‘Far From Home’.
LYN is a Haitian-Belgian artist based in Amsterdam and she embarks on a boundary-defying exploration of jazz, soul and contemporary sounds. Her artistry is a testament to the rich tapestry of her upbringing, with the first seventeen years of her life in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, serving as a wellspring of inspiration. Through her music, she translates collective emotions and spiritual nuances into harmonious melodies, creating a captivating fusion of cultural influences and personal experiences.
RAIYU & NORA are an Amsterdam based producer/singer duo who came together to release their EP ‘Waiting Room’ at the end of last year. Their alternative R&B project explores themes of introspection and uncertainty, while channeling various influences ranging from jazz to hip-hop to funk. Their live band is comprised of members from the music collective Nevera Soundsystem, so you can expect to hear tracks from the EP expanded into new dimensions with its live arrangement.
