Change is the word of this time: change in politics, change in behaviour, change in how we look at the world. But what is needed to change a system? Where do we start? And who starts? Alternatives from the Unexpected is the name of this talk, but also the name of the exhibition of designers that were curated to take part in GLUE 2025. Change may come from the wingbeat of a butterfly, or from designers who challenge the expected. Around the table, we have four designers with unexpected ideas: Feddow Claassen, Yassine Oumghar, Rinke Joosten and Robin Kapitein.

Doors open at 19:15. This programme will be broadcast live from Salto TV.

About the artists

Feddow Claassen is a visual artist, designer and inventor who lives and works in The Hague in the Netherlands.

“Why do I find something beautiful or intriguing? Sometimes I can become obsessed with something as simple and ordinary as a Billy bookcase from IKEA. It is not the form nor the material that fascinates me, but more the fact that this object connects humanity. Everyone has had a Billy in his or her life and the IKEA catalogue is more widely distributed than the Bible. Does that make the IKEA catalogue as important as the Bible?”

Feddow Claassen has developed several art projects inspired by the globally recognized Billy bookcase produced by IKEA. While certain projects remain in the conceptual phase, others have been realized.

Welcome to the digital realm of YASSA (Yassine Oumghar) — a space where emotion takes visual form and the spirit of the times is sculpted into stillness. Each piece is a reflection of inner worlds colliding with collective consciousness, captured through digital compositions, lenticular illusions, and 3D-printed forms. This portfolio is more than a showcase; it’s a portal into moments that feel, shift, and linger.

Studio Rinke Joosten is a Netherlands-based design studio located in Rotterdam. As an artist and ceramicist, Rinke tends to experiment with materials and production methods to create unique and authentic works of art. This is not only about the end result, but also about the process leading up to the work.

A symbiosis between materials and careful execution of the craft process are sought. Rinke intends to come up with interesting interventions without pushing the material in a certain direction. This raises interesting questions about the role of inefficiency and creative freedom within the production process, which is more based on efficiency. She values the unprecedented over the mass produced, and eternity over time.

Rinke Joosten places the production process at the heart of her work. She embodies a resolutely innovative approach to design, where the quest for authenticity and craftsmanship takes precedence over mass production, giving rise to unique, timeless works of art.

Robin Kapitein is a contemporary stained glass artist who combines traditional techniques with a modern sense of form and color. His work is marked by clean lines and a strong sense of composition. He draws inspiration from the elegance of Art Nouveau, the structure of Art Deco, and the craftsmanship of historic stained glass. His pieces range from small panels to larger works for windows and interiors, and his installations can be found in both public spaces and private collections. It is his mission to bring stained glass back into the present, reimagining the craft in a more modern way.
