Friday Dec 10, the This is Distributed Design documentary was launched on YouTube. What is distributed design? What effect does it have on democracy, social inclusion, and the climate? Can it become an answer towards a circular transition? And what is next in the field? This is Distributed Design is a short documentary that explores the emerging discipline by taking the audience to a number of Distributed Design Platform members, talents, and mentors all across Europe.

Established in 2017 and co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, the Distributed Design Platform brings together a diverse member-base from cultural and creative institutions including Fab Labs, cultural organisations, universities and makerspaces. It aims to support and connect creatives, designers, makers, and innovators to participate in the creation of a new model of production and consumption – envisioning a world in which “bits travel globally, while atoms stay local.”

Through in-depth conversations, the film discusses key aspects of Distributed Design such as its origins, social and environmental impact, and future directions. This is Distributed Design features a diverse range of talents, projects, and activities which allows insight into how the theory has been put into practice over the last four years.

You can check the full documentary on Youtube. Also, Check out the This is Distributed Design book – the fourth of a series of yearly publications developed within the Distributed Design Platform.
