Transforming public spaces into places
What is the secret of a good place, where you feel at home?
Part 1: 13.30 – 15.00 hrs / Meetingroom
Part 2: 15.15 – 16.45 hrs / Expo
Because the interaction between the built and lived environment is such a complex issue, there are often empty public spaces. People just don’t know what to do. Placemaking is to observe, understand, activate and manage ‘versatile meeting places’ in public spaces, such as squares, streets or parks. Placemaking is turning physical public spaces into places that support human interaction, economic exchange and well-being. During this workshop we wil explore the public space around Pakhuis De Zwijger and see how this public space can be turned into nicer, friendlier places for residents and other stakeholders.
- This game can be played by a maximum of 40 people and takes 3 hours.
- We will use the Place Game tool developed by Project for Public Spaces. Learning by doing, so you as citymakers can use the tool in your own city.
- This workshop will be hosted by Hans Karssenberg of Stipo and The City at Eye Level, and Peter Groenendaal of Placemaking Plus
- The City at Eye Level Book is open source and has more tools and cases worldwide. You can download it on www.thecityateyelevel.com. Become a member of the community at www.facebook.com/thecityateyelevel.
