An evening full of international acclaimed documentary photographers and photo industry experts, who will exchange experience and thoughts on the state of the industry today. A unique opportunity to meet, mingle and get to know them.
Guests at the table:
In collaboration with this years’ World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass, with the theme ‘Invisible’, a round table discussion will be held with a selection of acclaimed photographers, commissioned by Gupta Strategists about the subject: How can documentary photography be used for successful communication?
This summer Gupta Strategists, a Dutch medical consultancy firm, commissioned four international documentary photographers to document a ‘patient journey’ at a hospital or care home in their countries. This case study is a good example of how documentary photography can be used to support the work of Gupta Strategists. Their work concentrates on analyses, statistics and data and the only visuals normally used are graphs. Questions that will be debated are: How does a commission like this differ from a media commission or free work? Are there limitations and if so what are they? Are there any ethical issues to consider as a documentary photographer? How does the photography help Gupta Strategists in their communications?
The second half of the evening there will be a sneak preview of the documentary projects created by the participants of the Joop Swart Masterclass in the theme ‘Invisible’. Some of the participants and masters will be interviewed on stage about their experiences and the current state of the industry.
Present during this evening are all the participants and masters of the 2015 Joop Swart Masterclass.
At the end of the program there will be the opportunity to meet with all of these acclaimed industry professionals downstairs at the cafe.
The Joop Swart Masterclass is supported by Ammodo Foundation and Canon, who provides all participants with a grant. World Press Photo receives support from the Dutch Postcode Lottery and is sponsored worldwide by Canon.
