The enormous growth of cities in the Global South goes together with inadequate habitat conditions of the urban poor. As formal modes of housing supply are often not affordable to them, they are forced to look for alternative solutions in the informal sector.
They build their shelter step by step, which implies that their housing will be improved incrementally. This session will pay attention to seeking sustainable solutions concerning physical, financial and social elements of the building process in which stakeholders from the public and private sector join hands with organized citizens.
