Can the connection to the inner self be protected in times of upheaval and migration? Is it possible to anchor in art, joy, lust for life? Award-winning Finnish-Iraqi writer and film director Hassan Blasim (1973) will discuss art, home and belonging with Dutch writer and journalist Hans Maarten Van den Brink in a public discussion.
Blasim’s short story collection, The Iraqi Christ won the Independent newspaper’s highly prestigious translated literature award in 2014. Blasim’s works are known for their exploration of the everyday realities and fates of people in the Middle East and the lyrical way in which they interweave fact and fiction. With his short story collections The Iraqi Christ and Madman of Freedom Square, he has established himself as one of the most interesting names in contemporary Arabic literature. His books have been translated into more than twenty languages.
