Jennifer Lyon Bell

erotic film director/curator/speaker

Forever wishing that all movies had longer and better sex scenes, Harvard graduate Jennifer Lyon Bell (USA) decided to mix arthouse cinema with hot explicit sex in her own work. The founder of Blue Artichoke Films (Amsterdam), she creates erotic fiction films and documentaries that illuminate the riveting, intimate, and sometimes delightfully awkward side of sex. Her films win awards at both porn festivals and art-film festivals. She won the Feminist Porn Awards “Movie of The Year” grand prize for her film Silver Shoes, screened her film Headshot on the Dutch television culture program “Zomergasten” with Simone van Saarloos, and had her film Matinée banned in Australia at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival -- where it won the jury prize anyway. This December she gave the closing keynote, “Empathy and Pornography,” at the Sex And The Cinema film studies conference at the University of Kent. In addition to filmmaking, she curates erotic-themed film programs and exhibitions for museums, arts institutions, and festivals worldwide including The Museum of Sex in New York, Ladyfest, and the San Francisco Indie Erotic Film Festival. She teaches Erotic Cinema at the Dutch Film Academy (NFTA), was a co-director of the Rated X Amsterdam Alternative Erotica Film Festival, and was a consultant for the Erotic Archive at the EYE Film Museum. With her self-empowering creative workshop “From Fantasy To Film: Design Your Own Erotic Film,” she has been a guest at film and culture events all over the world. Her 2017 virtual reality 3D 360 degree film Second Date is probably the world’s first erotic orgasmic clothed VR film. Second Date had its sneak preview at the EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam and its world premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London, where it was shortlisted for Raindance's award in Best Sensual Experiences. Blue Artichoke Films is proud to make artistic, unusual erotic films that portray sexuality in an emotionally realistic way.
